DISH Network TurboHD Packages

Satellite TV provider DISH Network recently released new programming packages called TurboHD. These new programming packages are 100% hi definition, leaving out all of the SD channels. Is DISH TurboHD the right for you?

It all depends on what you want from your pay TV provider. Some folks want every single channel that is available. They don't care if 10 of them are shopping channels, or that five of the channels are public access. They just want all of the channels.

On the other hand, many have become tired of trying to wade through all of the lower tier channels on the television dial, looking for something decent to watch. For consumers who have recently bought a new HDTV, Turbo HD by DISH Network might be the right choice.

DISH Network currently offers three different levels with the Turbo HD package, those being Bronze, Silver, and Gold. All of these packages are made up of HD channels only. Pricing starts at about $24.99 per month for the Bronze package. That package does not include your local channels like CBS and NBC, which cost $5 more per month.

DISH Network also has the Platinum level, which is an add-on service to the Gold, Silver, and Bronze packages. The Platinum level is $10 per month, and includes seven more hi def channels such as MGM HD and Smithsonian HD.

One sticking point with some current DISH Network customers is they have not been allowed to switch over to the less expensive TurboHD packages. At this time, just new subscribers to DISH Network have been allowed to get the TurboHD only bundles. Current customers can get Turbo HD, but only as an add-on to the standard package they already have.

Another item to consider is in how DISH Network is numbering the networks included in the packages. For example, the TurboHD Bronze package which includes forty-four channels, but of those 24 are network channels, six are pay-per-view, and 14 are video-on-demand channels. For some, that number would be adequate others are used to having a lot more content to choose from. A final consideration, the Turbo HD packages do not include movie packages like Starz or Cinemax, so don't be surprised when you have to pay an additional fee monthly for those commercial free channels.
