Lots of people are scared of dogs. The fear is quite often triggered when we're young. Maybe you were enjoying a game with a dog and out of the blue you got snarled or barked at. If that happens when you were older and wiser, no worries, you'd likely not have an issue. But when we're younger, almost in an instant your mind has been trained to think that dogs are not as nice as you thought they were.
Since we learn quickly when we put our mind to it, this idea gets stuck in our mind. Whether or not we can't work out why when we think about it rationally.
So is there anything you can do to cut down being scared by dogs? Deep down, dogs have been our friends for generations and want to keep it that way and be fed dog treats every now and then.
You could tell yourself that "dogs are friendly" but you and I both know that it's highly unlikely you'll believe that kind of talk. In particular as there's almost certainly a voice in your head screaming (in true pantomime fashion) "oh no they're not!"
The next thing to try is to put yourself close enough to dogs you can see them but there is zero chance that you'll actually be nose to nose or have it jump up at you and lick you all over your face. Looking at pictures is a good way to progress here. Unless you're truly paranoid, you know that the picture is actually some dollops of ink on paper or pixels on your computer screen. So this is quite a safe transition stage for most people and you'll probably find your mind getting slightly less panicky at the thought of meeting a dog in real life.
But all this is slow progress and can take what seems like forever. Plus going the slow route won't work if your children absolutely must have a dog and there's no way you can talk them out of it?
One of the quickest ways to combat things like a phobia of dogs is by using hypnosis. Hypnosis works unobtrusively in the background. And unless you tell them, no-one will ever realize you're using hypnosis since you can instantly download a hypnosis MP3 for dog phobia and listen to it and just let your fear disappear.
